In The Spotlight…
Expanding on this success, we took the idea to "black-ish" showrunner Kenya Barris who credits Norman Lear with forging the way for today's sitcom hits.
As it did with its first-season finale, ABC’s “black-ish” closed out its second season with a high-concept flash back episode of Lear's groundbreaking sitcom "Good Times."
In the finale, a stressed-out Dre (Anthony Anderson) falls asleep during a marathon of “Good Times” episodes, and in his dream, the Johnson family turns into the Evans clan from the classic Norman Lear sitcom of the ‘70s.
The show scored record ratings and introduced Lear to a whole new generation of fans.
When we brought "Even This!" with Norman Lear to Morehouse College, our goal was to introduce his groundbreaking work to a new millenial audience. But the content needed to resonate...
So in tribute to the 40th Anniversary of The Jeffersons, we reimagined scenes from Norman's classic TV series and invited sitcom veterans Kim Fields, Keyshia Knight Pulliam, Jasmine Guy and young talent from the acting departments of Morehouse, Spelman and Clark Atlanta universities to take on the show's characters. Special guest star and one of the evening's honorees, Marla Gibbs reprised her iconic role as the sassy maid Florence Johnston.
